These days, families across the UK are turning their attention more closer to home when it comes to picking holiday destinations. Year on year the amount of families going to British coastal towns instead of abroad is rising. It can often be a lot cheaper, environmentally friendly and save on travel time. Whatever the reason for having a family seaside holiday in the UK, here are a few tips to get the most out of your trip.
Firstly, when it comes to clothing, you don’t have to be stringent as when packing for a flight. That said, just for ease, you don’t want to go overboard with how much clothes you take. Due to the unpredictability of UK weather it’s important to pack with layers in mind. On top of this, it’s always good to keep waterproofs handy in the car, so hopefully you don’t get caught out. When it comes to the beach, especially with young children, it’s good to pack outfits that are solely for the beach and not used elsewhere for the rest of the holiday. No matter what age; Children’s, men’s or women’s sliders are a great footwear option for the beach. They can also double as a substitute for slippers round your accommodation.
When it comes to the accommodation itself, there are much more self board options than there have been in the past. Thanks to the rise of sites such as Airbnb and the likes. This means you’re not forced to eat out every night and set aside a large amount of your budget on dining. One way to fully take advantage of having your own kitchen amenities when on holiday is investing in cool boxes and tupperware before you set off. This means those days spent lazing at the beach can be paired with some nice fresh picnic options. With many beaches only ever having one cafe to accomodate a large amount of people, this is a great way to beat the queues, lack of choice and inflated prices.
There’s also the option of disposable barbecues at the beach. If there’s a nice selection of locally caught fish, barbecuing some fresh fish on the beach that’s sourced locally can often beat any restaurant. Or even more so if you catch it yourself!
Finally, make sure you don’t get caught out by the weather when you’re on holiday. Have tucked under your sleeve a few ideas for if your holiday is hit with a rainy day. This might involve turning your attention more inland towards something along the lines of museums, cinemas or National Trust properties.
